Lauren Bradford of Gulf Shores is in Uncasville, Connecticut, preparing for the Miss America competition. As Miss Alabama 2021, Bradford is one of 51 women vying to become Miss America 2022.

It’s the centennial competition, marking 100 years of history for Miss America. The title comes with $100,000 in scholarship money, as well as a yearlong reign.

Preliminary events are planned for Dec. 12-13, along with scholarship judging, a workshop for teens and pre-teens, a 100th anniversary party and more. The Miss America finals are set for Dec. 16 at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort. (Tickets are $100-$200 via Ticketmaster.) The 7 p.m. finals will stream live on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service. (A free plan for Peacock is available that includes ads, along with two plans that have monthly fees.)

Miss America 2020-2021, Camille Schrier, will crown her successor at the conclusion. Schrier has served as Miss America for an extra year because last year’s competition was canceled during the coronavirus pandemic.

Let’s take a closer look at all 51 candidates for Miss America 2022.
